Being in a long distance relationship demanded a lot of flying. I picked up these little things to do which make travel a little easy and more pleasant.

  1. Stuff those shoes with socks and underwear to save space in your bag. I take it a step further and use the big boots to carry my bigger liquid bottles (cologne, after shave). Apart from serving as storage the stuffed items help maintain the shape of those leather shoes.
  2. Do you park your car at one of the vast airport parking lots? If so, use the camera on your cell phone (almost all cell phones have cameras nowadays) to take a picture of your parking port. Knowing which lot you parked on and the row number can help in preventing the ‘I don’t remember where I parked!’ dilemma. And oh yeah, make sure you delete the pictures after you’re done to avoid confusion on future trips.
  3. I love my music as it makes time fly for me, literally. I bought a portable charger for my iPod and it works like a charm. It’s only as big as two AA batteries standing side by side, which it works on, and gives up to 15 hours of continuous battery life for the iPod. If you use it in phases it lasts even more. I find myself having to change batteries once every month or so. Research one of the many online stores for an ‘AA battery iPod charger’; it costs less than 10 bucks.
  4. Notice how so many bags look the same on the luggage belt? Apart from putting on unique bag tags, insert your business card or name, address and phone number inside one of the outer pockets. That way, if anyone ends up taking your bag with them, they can get in touch and fix a way to get your bag back to you.
  5. I use the laundry bags provided in hotels to put in the used clothes from my trip. That way when I get back home I can just unload them into the washer and bingo! Use separate bags for colored and whites.
  6. Next time you think about throwing away those bar-coded luggage sticker tags put on by the airline at check-in, stop. Just open them apart and use them as lint remover strips. It’s a quick fix and much handier than the lint rollers available. Apart from this, these sticker tags can also help in sealing liquid bottles.
  7. When you check out from your hotel, don’t feel guilty about bringing back the miniature shampoo/conditioner bottles with you. With current travel restrictions, these work as good refill bottles for your gels and liquids.

I hope these tips help. May all your travels be safe and worry free.
